Convert PDF to Excel

The code below shows you how to convert a PDF files to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, using the OpenFileDialog function to find your PDF files and then the PdfToExcelConverter to convert to Excel.

Steps for Converting your PDF file to Excel

  1. Import the trial Developer License:

    License.Import(new StreamReader(@"C:\Users\Joe\license.xml"));

  2. Locate the PDF files using OpenFileDialog:

    OpenFileDialog OpFile = new OpenFileDialog();
    //show only PDF Files
    OpFile.Filter = "PDF Files (*.pdf)|*.pdf";

    if (OpFile.ShowDialog() == System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK)

  3. Define strings to manage saving of the file:

    String pdfPath = OpFile.FileName;
    String xlsFile = Path.ChangeExtension(pdfFile, "xlsx");

  4. Convert the PDF File using PDFtoExcelConverter:

    using (PdfToExcelConverter converter = new PdfToExcelConverter())
       // Add files to convert.
      //Set the preferred conversion properties

       //This combines all tables onto one sheet
      converter.SingleTable = true;

      //This gets Non Table Content
      converter.TablesFromContent = true;

      //convert the file, calling it the same name but with a different extention , setting overwrite to true
      converter.ConvertTo(xlsFile, true);
